What are contracts and commitments?

Understand how contracts and commitments let you track what you've agreed to deliver.

These features apply when commitment delivery is switched on.Contracts and commitments let you track what you've agreed to deliver for another organisation and measure progress against it. This article explains how they fit together.

Contracts and commitments

  • A contract records an agreement with another organisation - a client or a supplier. It carries a method, a value and a social value target.

  • A commitment sits under a contract and is a specific thing to deliver. It carries a title, a cause, a due date, a measure and a target (for example 60 apprenticeship weeks). It can set its own per-unit value if the measure doesn't have one.

How delivery rolls up

An activity, a commitment and a contract link one-to-one. Delivery logged on the activity rolls up to the commitment (delivered versus target, health and completion), then up to the contract and the Delivery report.

📌 Note: If the same work serves two commitments, create two activities - one per commitment.
