How and when to cancel an opportunity as an opportunity lead

Mark an opportunity you lead as cancelled when it was going to run but won't go ahead.

Written by Sevgi Sairoglu Sezginer

Cancelling marks an opportunity as Cancelled. Unlike archiving, the opportunity stays in your list - Cancelled is a status that sits alongside Open, In progress and Completed - so you keep a clear record that it was planned but didn't happen.

When to cancel

  • Cancel when an opportunity was genuinely going to run and then didn't.

  • If the work actually happened, Mark complete instead.

  • If the opportunity should never have existed (a mistake or duplicate), Archive it instead.

How to cancel

📝 Coming soon - Change Status: cancelling is done through the opportunity page Change Status action: "Mark this opportunity as complete when all activities are finished, or cancel it if it's no longer going ahead."

  1. Open your Dashboard and go to the Opportunities leading section.

  2. Find the opportunity and click on the opportunity title. Opportunity page opens.

  3. Choose Change status, then “Mark as Cancelled”.

📝 Note: You can cancel in-progress opportunities only.

What happens to logged hours

Cancelling is meant for opportunities that didn't run, so usually there are no logged hours. If a flexible opportunity had a few real logged hours before it fell through, those hours stay and continue to count - cancelling preserves work that genuinely happened.
