How to log a donation

Record a donation - money, materials, equipment, space or a service - and link it to an Activity.

Written by Sevgi Sairoglu Sezginer

Donations let you capture the financial and in-kind contributions made toward your work, so they count alongside volunteering in your impact. This article walks through logging a donation.

📝 Note: Logging donations - including in-kind contributions like materials, equipment, space and services - is available now. This is separate from the In-kind donation opportunity type.

Where to find the Log Donation form

You can open the Log Donation form in a few ways:

  • From your profile menu > Log Donation.

  • From your Dashboard, in the Donations section, click + Log a donation.

  • From the + Log Donation button on the Donations page - this option is only available to admins, as they're the ones who see the Donations page.

1. Choose the donation type

The form starts by asking what type of donation it is. There are five types:

  • Money

  • Materials

  • Equipment

  • Space

  • Service

2. Link to an Activity

Every donation must be linked to an Activity. Select an existing Activity, or - if none fits - create a new one inline directly from the form.

3. Add a description

Enter a short description (required) of what the donation is.

4. Enter the value

The fields shown depend on the type you chose:

  • Money: simply enter the Amount.

  • Materials, Equipment, Space or Service: enter the Quantity, Unit and Unit Value. The Total Value is then calculated for you automatically.

5. Set the dates

  • Committed Date (optional): the date the donation was pledged.

  • Completed Date (required): the date the donation is counted as completed.

6. Submit

After submitting, you land on the Donations listing, where your new donation appears. You can edit a donation later from the listing or your dashboard.
